Community Clean Up in Littlehampton

Littlehampton benefitted from a community litter pick on Saturday (5 July) as local councillors and community volunteers came together for World Environment Day to clean up the town centre.

Organised by West Sussex County Councillor, Gary Markwell, who was recently re-elected to represent Arundel & Courtwick division for a further four year, the litter picking morning included local Councillors from all three tiers of local government, with Littlehampton Town Council, Arun District Council and West Sussex County Council all represented by elected representatives.

The litter picking session was held as part of World Environment Day which is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect the environment, with similar events also taking place in Crawley and Worthing.

Councillor Gary Markwell, who organised the morning commented “During the recent West Sussex County Council elections, a number of residents raised concerns about the amount of litter on our streets and especially around the town centre, so I was really pleased to organise this community litter pick to coincide with World Environment Day to help to make our town centre litter free, and I was delighted that so many people joined in”.
